The sweet smell of success

Holts Cigar Company

Business Challenge
When Holt’s Cigar decided it was time to extend its business to the Internet, it aimed to carry its tradition of quality to its new eCommerce website. “We wanted to be the premier cigar site on the Internet,” says Mike Pitkow, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Holt’s Cigar Company. Another important challenge was to make sure the eBusiness solution would be flexible enough to handle all of Holt’s products, primarily the more than 6,000 SKU’s of premium cigars and the various offers built around them.

The objectives were achieved when the Holt’s eCommerce Web site was launched from Trifecta’s Network Operations Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The B2C Web storefront selling premium cigars has exceeded its revenue expectations without investing in marketing or advertising.

Trifecta's Solution:
Holts custom eCommerce site was developed to meet it's strategic goals in several ways:
  • Implementation of IBM's WebSphere Application Server and DB2 database
  • Development of a points system which allows users to redeem them for product which they have collected while purchasing on the site.
  • Sampling feature allowing customers to put together their own cigar sample package.
  • Incorporating an Aging Room where customers have the opportunity to purchase limited edition product at a discount rate.
The results
The new eCommerce web site has exceeded all of Holt's expectations. Trifecta has increased site usability and traffic and reduced overall maintenance and development costs.
