The award-winning Musikfest mobile app, designed by Trifecta, allows users to enjoy America’s largest free music festival like never before.

The Story

Backgound:

ArtsQuest is a non-profit organization that provides access to art, culture, and educational programs to the residents of (and visitors to) the Lehigh Valley. Their programming reaches nearly two million people annually and has a combined regional economic impact of more than $136 million annually. ArtsQuest’s flagship festival, Musikfest, is a 10-day music festival that features 500+ shows on 17 stages in Bethlehem, PA.  

Challenge:

In addition to hundreds of musical performances, Musikfest also features dozens of dance troupes, street performers, specialty artisans, and food vendors. Information about each of these participants is traditionally printed in a booklet and hosted online. However, as the festival grew, it was becoming more difficult to share information to the nearly one million visitors attending Musikfest from all over the world. ArtsQuest challenged Trifecta to develop a solution that could quickly disseminate a large volume of content to users in real time.

The Work

Strategy:

Trifecta worked with ArtsQuest to design a mobile app that delivered location-based games and features using GPS, performance schedules, performer biographies, real-time festival updates, and general festival information.

Results:

The app saw more than 17,000 downloads in less than 30 days post deployment. The Musikfest mobile app put festival information at the fingertips of attendees. Guests were able to access everything they needed to know about Musikfest’s 500+ performances, 325+ performers, 40+ artists, and 30+ food vendors. ArtsQuest received overwhelming positive feedback from Musikfest attendees about the iOS app, which has since been expanded for Android users as well. 

The app won a Gold Pinnacle Award for Best Festival/Event Mobile Application two years in a row from the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA). It was also named “Best in Show” at the American Advertising (ADDY) awards.
